Assistant Content Writer

Job description

We're looking for an eagle-eyed writer to compile articles, listings and guides covering events, activities and experiences in Joburg and surrounds.

What's On In Joburg promotes thousands of things to do, to locals and tourists alike. In this role, you'll be given the majority of your content; the skill is in shaping it into sharp, engaging copy that readers actually want to read. Full training and all content guidelines are provided.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with proven writing ability who wants to build real-world experience in the media, tourism and creative industries, and get paid while doing it.

What you'll be doing

• Writing and editing approximately 80 brief event listings per month
• Researching and writing approximately 8 longer articles per month
• Updating approximately 6 evergreen articles per month
• Selecting and resizing images
• Monitoring partner activity across social media and ticketing platforms
• Regular check-ins with the editorial team

Training provided: WordPress, house style, AI tools and soft skills.



The details

Full time role but hours are flexible. Remuneration is R6,000–R8,000 per month depending on experience, reviewed quarterly with increases a strong possibility. Start date: May 2026.

Requirements

• Excellent written English — strong grammar and a genuine flair for words
• Proven writing experience (articles, essays, blog posts or similar)
• Meticulous attention to detail
• A collaborative, communicative working style
• Initiative and the ability to work independently from home
• Computer literacy and confident typing
• Based in Joburg, with solid local knowledge
