Senior Data Scientist

A forward-thinking insurance company committed to leveraging data and advanced analytics to drive smarter decisions, enhance customer experiences, and innovate within the insurance industry. We are looking for a skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our growing analytics team.

As a senior data scientist, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying data-driven solutions that support strategic business objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to uncover insights, build predictive models, and optimize business processes across underwriting, claims, and customer engagement.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain advanced machine learning models
• Analyze large, complex datasets to extract actionable insights
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into analytical solutions
• Build and optimize data pipelines using modern cloud technologies
• Present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences
• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to best practices
• Drive innovation through experimentation and continuous improvement

Qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in: mathematics, econometrics, statistics, physics, or information systems (with strong data and technology experience), OR BSc in computer science (with interest in business operations), OR data science qualification with relevant experience
• 5+ years’ experience in a data science or advanced analytics role
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or R
• Proficiency in SQL for data querying and manipulation
• Experience with Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory
• Data visualization and reporting using Microsoft Power BI
• Solid understanding of machine learning techniques and model deployment
• Experience working with large-scale datasets and cloud environments

The reference number for this position is NG61295 which is a permanent hybrid position based in Johannesburg offering a cost to company of up to R1mil per annum negotiable on experience and ability.
